Biography
Born in Cuba, 1959, Mike Rivero's interest in painting was evident quite early. At 11 years of age his family left Cuba and lived for the next five years in Madrid, Spain. Often visiting the Museo del Prado during this impressionable period, Mike's interest in art was nurtured
and flourished. He painted his first oil painting at the age of twelve years.
Essentially a self-taught artist, Mike's painting has been influenced by the likes of Picasso
and Martano Rodriguez. He has studied privately with California impressionist
painter Michael Dancer and California expressionist painter Neil Nagy.
Mike's colorful and exuberant approach to modern art has been very well received and his
paintings are now a part of many private collections in the United States and Europe.
Mike currently lives and works in Southern California.
Artist’s Statement
“I consider myself an expressionist painter.
I am constantly searching for what I call a dance between color and composition.
When it comes to figurative work it is about attitude and expression. Finally
the purpose is to establish an intimate dialogue between my art and the spectator. “
